That's fantastic Hyacynth! Definitely a stroke of good luck! And it's good to see that you've used the resources available to you. It does stink that the system is messing you up because you're a student, but another way to look at it is this: you are setting a wonderful example for your daughter by showing her you're a strong, hard working women. She will be one too. Here's a nice little link to lift your spirits:

Hi, Plucky, Thanks for your great comments. To answer your question, yes, I have set up a PayPal account. It is under my email... jaimebevan@gmail.com I had the best of luck! I was supposed to move into my new apartment in about the second week of October, hence the stress and problems with coming up with two rent payments for that month. But, right before I was getting ready to move, my new landlord asked if I'd be willing to wait until the end of the month so she could do some remodeling. I was so ecstatic. It was an answer to my prayers. Because of that, I didn't have to worry about paying for half of October's rent to her on top of all of October's rent in my old place. Things worked out well, and now I am scraping by, but it's better than not scraping at all, right! Thanks, Plucky, I am grateful for your words and support. Hyacynth

Thanks, LittleBigMama, I have applied for and am currently on several Welfare programs: Medicaid and Food Stamps. I asked if I could apply for Cash assistance and was told that I don't qualify. The reason is that I am a student, but I'm not within two years of graduation. I asked, "Well, what if I wasn't a student?" Guess what? Then, I would qualify. I guess I just don't understand the system. I really appreciate your comment, though, and thank you for taking the time to do research on my behalf. I have moved into the new apartment, and I have managed to get more hours at work, as well. So, I think that things will start looking up here pretty soon. I got through the roughest spot (pecuniarily speaking), and now I know I can get through anything. I have Heavenly Father on my side, and many wonderful people like yourself, who support me with such kind words and thoughts! Thanks again. Hyacynth

Hi Hyacynth (that's a lovely nickname by the way!) Good looking out with the warning about scammers! Shows that you have a good head on your shoulders and you care enough to share your wisdom with others. There's nothing wrong with applying for welfare assistance to help you get by...I did that after my first marriage failed. What people need to understand is that welfare is there to help supplement your income, not become a career! People that make their living by dishonestly collecting welfare make it difficult for everyone! I don't know where you could get an emergency $500, but looking into local food banks and charities from churches could help you a lot. There is also the WIC (Women Infants Children) program to help with feeding that darling little one of yours. Give me some time to do some research and I will send you some information that might help you supplement that income so you can afford to move and pay the bills.

Hyacynth, I have read your post and it sound like your are trying hard. Good Job. You Posted on Sept 26th, "I have always prided myself on being a dependant". I would caution you to not put pride as a piority item. In your position it is a time like this when you set pride aside and rely on the help whin your family and siblings. Later you can help them out in their time of need. In 20 years from now when you are a succesful career woman they wont remember nor will you remeber that you lowered your pride for a year or two. You will remember you love for each other and your child will follow your success. Good luck.. Plucky Ducky

EVERYONE BE CAREFUL! THIS SITE IS A PREYING GROUND FOR SCAMMERS! Never give out any personal information. I have been inundated with emails from people saying they want to donate, but can't go through PayPal, so would I please send them my name and address. Never give out your personal information! I can't stress this enough. There are some clever scammers out there, but as long as you don't give out your name or address, they cannot hurt you!

I got the apartment! So, I have figured it out, and basically, I need a $700 loan or grant. The money I do have in my savings right now will pay my rent and bills for October in my current apartment with a little left over. If I get what I hope for, that will pay for me to get into the apartment, plus a little left over as well. That way, I will have about two hundred in savings that can go toward my November rent. That will be enough to get me through until January, plus a little bit in case of emergency. Then, I will be able to stand on my own two feet again. I want to make it clear that I am looking for a boost; a helping hand; a ladder, if you will to climb out of the hole. Once I'm out, I will be fine. I am looking for something to help me get back to self-sufficiency. I have gone to DWS, and was told that because I am a student, they can not help me! If you are a student, you must be within 2 years of graduation in order to receive assistance. Yet, they did tell me that if I wasn't a student, then in my situation, I would definitely get financial assistance. I have a problem with that. I am not trying to sit back, collecting checks, and staying in the system for the rest of my life. Yes, I have gotten into a situation where I need to ask for help. But, my intention is to better my life, and my daughter's life.

Does anyone know about a program that offers a one-time gift of up to $500 no questions asked? I went to DWS to inquire about financial assistance, and they mentioned something about it. The lady I spoke with said she thought it was done through the American Red Cross. I can't find any info on it, so I was wondering if anyone knows more about it. Please let me know. That would be just enough to get me into this apartment, and then I will be able to do it on my own from there.

I will find out today if I get the apartment. I have looked at several that are more in my price range as of late, but the one that would suit my family the best is the one I will find out about today. I am still looking into every possible avenue I can to get financial assistance. I hate to be in a situation where I have to ask for a handout, but I have been in situations where I was the one giving, and giving is such a good feeling. I am just hoping that what goes around comes around!

For some reason, it won't let me add text above, so I'm doing it here. Okay, to start off with, I am a single mother to a beautiful 3 year old girl. I do not receive child support from her father, even though I've gone through all the right channels. I just got back into school at a local university, and I attend full-time in order to receive a grant. School is completely paid for, and I am so grateful for that. I have never struggled financially until I got into school. Even though it is paid for, I am really scraping by now because of not being available to work enough hours to pay the bills. What savings I had is almost gone now that my income has been cut in half and I am forced to live paycheck to paycheck. I have found a few apartments that are more economical, and include utilities which I pay now. If I can get into one of these, I will be able to save upwards of $200/mo. My only problem is that I have to give 30 days notice at the apartment complex I am currently residing in, yet if I get into one of the units I have been looking at, they all require to move in and pay 1st month's rent plus a deposit right away. I don't dare give my notice here until I have a place to move into. So, I know the two expenses are going to overlap. I have enough in savings, plus what I expect to earn in the next month to pay for one or the other. But, not both. If I can make it until the end of this year, I will be fine! Come January, when the next semester starts, I will have a more flexible schedule which will allow me to work more hours, and thus pull myself out of this hole. I have always prided myself on being a dependant and successful single mother. Growing up, my mother was a single mom raising three of us, and we were dirt poor, moving from shack to shack. I never thought I would be in the same position. I always thought I would be able to provide my daughter with a better life. I know I will be able to, and that this is just a temporary setback. Thank you for taking the time to read about my plight. If anyone has any suggestions, or any way of helping, please let me know. I appreciate the opportunity of sharing this with people. Thanks again.
